Mexico 1 - 1 South Africa
After, Nelson Mandela's great grand daughter was killed in a car accident last night, (in what seems to be a string of curses including injury and now death preceding the World Cup) the 91 year old icon chose not to attend the opening ceremony or the first match. Unfortunately, he did miss quite a game. The RSA scored the first goal, a rocket of a strike from Tshabalala. But unfortunately for the host nation, Mexico would answer with a goal of its own thanks to Marquez.
Currently, France is playing Uruguay, and their tied 0-0 at half. France's individual personalities seem to be causing some conflict on the field, as arguing is constant. Malouda, of Chelsea, and Henry of Barcelona, are missed dearly, as they were opted out by the head coach as starters. I wouldn't be surprised if both made much needed appearances in the second half.
UPDATE:
The game ended with a nil-nil draw after a red card was given to a player for Uruguay for sliding with cleats up. Thierry Henry took a direct kick with seconds to spare, but failed to get past the wall.
Uruguay 0 - 0 France
T'was a pretty boring day for a World Cup opener.
